Dental Fillings

What is a Cavity Filling?

When a tooth has a small cavity on one or more surfaces Dr. Kuske will recommend a filling. The filling will be made of a composite, a tooth closed resin. The filling will restore the tooth to its normal function and shape.

What Happens When You Get a Cavity Filling?

Dr. Kuske will get you nice and numb so that you will be comfortable through the entire procedure. Once you are numb she will remove all of the decay and damaged tooth structure. Then she will place a band around your tooth to help her rebuild its shape. Next she will use a machine that blows special sand on the tooth to remove any unsupported tooth material. Now the tooth is ready to be rebuilt or “filled”.

Dr. Kuske will place different liquids onto the tooth so that the composite material is able to bond to tooth structure. Then she will rebuild the tooth with composite material that matches your tooth. A light will be shined on the tooth to harden the composite. The band will be removed and the filling will be shaped. Dr. Kuske will check your bite by having you chew on a blue paper. Once your filling is the perfect shape Dr. Kuske will polish it and you are ready to go.

Patients visit Dr. Kuske for their dental fillings from Mission Viejo, Lake Forest, Aliso Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita, Laguna Hills and nearby communities.

How Do I Know If I Need a Cavity Filling?

Only your dentist can detect whether you have a cavity that needs to be filled. During a checkup, your dentist will use a small mirror and x-rays to examine the surfaces of each tooth.
